Hello, mysterious writer for rarepairfest! Some of these pairings are brand new loves and some are old, old favorites, so whatever you write will be greatly appreciated. I'm fine with any ratings, from G to Explicit. I've written out some general likes and dislikes (mostly cribbed from Yuletide, I admit) and written a bit on what I like about each pairing (with some related pairings grouped together to keep this from being all the words long.)

Spoilers abound below!

Likes: Hurt/Comfort. I love characters taking care of each other, especially characters who have a hard time putting their feelings into words. Bedside vigils, treating wounds, keeping watch over someone sleeping and recovering, all things that will make me melt. Nothing's better than seeing how characters feel based on how they treat each other without any words needing to be said.

Rescues! Love characters panicking when someone they love is in danger and moving Heaven and Hell to keep them safe. Fighting against impossible odds, Us against the world, all of that good stuff.

Finding your place. I love lonely, isolated people finding each other, where they belong and who they want to belong there with, even if it's not easily understood by outsiders.

Sacrifices. Few things make my chest go tight like a one character making a hard choice or giving something up for the sake of a loved one without having to be asked, especially if the second character never knows. (Of course this can go too far - uncalled for or just stupid sacrifices don't have nearly the same effect.:)

Time Travel shenanigans. Characters crossing their own timelines, warnings from future selves, going back trying to undo past mistakes, huge sucker for all of that.

Dislikes: Non-con, A/B/O, D/s verses. I think that's it. (Dubcon I'm fine with, especially the sex pollen/outside influence forcing things/maintain our cover type.)

Hello everyone!

I'm working on clearing off the cobwebs and dust from the ol' journal. /o\ Writer's block has a habit of making the journaling taper off too; I get into a headspace where I feel like I shouldn't update until I Write The Words, and then there are no words and the update get pushed back and suddenly two months have gone by. But I think that's passing? I managed to finish something, so yay! Progress!

I think the true lesson learned from all this is that writing for actively updating canons is not thing that works for me, as the assorted half-finished Arrow fics in my folder will attest. But that will cease to be a problem in another couple of weeks so that's a problem that will resolve itself.:) (This isn't a problem for SPN fic by and large; I don't watch the show live - it really plays better consumed in binges - and S4-6 are such sweet spots for me writing wise.)

To encourage the writing bug slowly waking up, I signed up for Remix Madness! All my fic is open for remixing and I'm going to peruse the prompt list after I hit post. (I've never done remix and this seems like a good baby step into it.:)

As mentioned, there was new fic this (well last, technically) week!

Finders, Keepers: Meg's going to give back the sword. Y'know. Eventually. (Meg/Castiel, Explicit)

I feel like I've been trying to write Meg/Cas for years and years. Love them and Meg is the best to write. I should finish the Meg/Cas/Dean fic I started and got stuck on next.

January Talking Meme", Day 21: Wednesday Reading meme! (This was supposed to be posted last night but my internet wasn't cooperating. Pretend it's still Wednesday!)

Square one on the bingo card filled!

Behold!Collapse )

What I've just finished reading

Horns by Joe Hill. Really really liked this - it's hard not to compare Hill to his dad (going to happen when you write horror and your father's Stephen King) but they both have this kind of visceral, almost earthy feel to their prose that makes everything feel immediate and raw. There are some ugly, ugly parts to this book - I almost stopped reading I'd say a quarter of the way through when the MC does some really repugnant things, worried I'd stumbled into Lord Foul's Bane all over again - but there was also almost a...I want to say sweetness there? A fairy tale touch, especially at the end. At the end it reminded me a lot of Revolutionary Girl Utena in a way, that interlocking repeating themes feel.

Horns begins with a young guy named Ig Perrish wakes up hungover, unable to remember what he'd done the night before and with two horns growing out of his head that make everyone he meets confess their worst secrets. And do the people around him have some bad secrets. And now spoilersCollapse )

Four stars out of five. Will definitely read Hill again.

Fave one star review line: In all fairness, if the content were different the story would have been more enjoyable for me. (I love one star reviews. Whenever I finish a book I immediately go read the one star reviews, especially if I really liked it.)

What I'm reading now

Stuff: Compulsive Hoarding and the Meaning of Things by Randy Frost & Gail Steketee

I like to alternate fiction and non-fiction. I'll be done with this by the weekened, non fiction always goes quicker than novels for some reason.

What I'm reading next

Probably The King In Yellow? Assuming I don't hear about it going off the rails I plan on marathoning True Detective once the season over and this seems like just the thing to prepare for that and it fits the bingo line I'm working on.

Ugh, this February. I have been so tired, guys. I feel like I've been trying to do this post for years instead of a week.

But anyway! We have a topic today!

January Talking Meme: Day 21: from dhampyresa: Favourite bits from Doctor Who (and/or any other show you feel like doing).

DOCTOR WHO! This show makes me so happy. I'd heard of the show before NuWho started but never managed to see it (no, I'm not sure how either. I was vice president of the Sci-Fi club in college and still, nada. Classic British sci-fi as a whole is a blank spot for me - haven't seen Blake's 7 or Red Dwarf either, although I plan to eventually.)

So Nine was my first Doctor and he's still MY Doctor. He way as well have been written for me. I can't think of any better way to introduce someone to the series than starting with "Rose."

My top ten favorite Doctor Who moments! (and not just Nine, I promise!:)

1) The Doctor telling Rose how he can feel the rotation of the Earth and that first time he holds her hand.
2) The Doctor completely losing it, screaming at the lone remaining Dalek in "Dalek." (I'd liked the show before that episode but my heart was gone by the end of it.
3) Ten going down that deep dark pit in the Satan Pit/Impossible Planet two-parter. (That was the episode that made Ten finally click for me.)
4) Eleven walking through this holographic predecessors in "The Eleventh Hour."
5) "One day, I shall come back. Yes, I shall come back. Until then, there must be no regrets, no tears, no anxieties. Just go forward in all your beliefs, and prove to me I am not mistaken in mine."
6) Four's awed monologue about humanity in "The Ark In Space."
7) "Physician, heal thyself." My heart. And Eight running through all the audio companions, canonizing them. (Although I wish Fitz had snuck in there, two. Nine is wearing his jacket and I will never be convinced otherwise.)
8) Three's first episode, where he first steals his outfit from the hospital locker room and then steals some poor sap's car. (He gives back the car but swans around in that opera suit and dracula cape for most of the rest of his run.)
9) Every single thing Two does. All of them. Especially with the Brig. (Not that he doesn't like the rest of them, but Two is clearly the Brig's Doctor.)
10) "Somewhere there's danger, somewhere there's injustice, and somewhere else the tea is getting cold. Come on, Ace, we've got work to do." (I'll always believe in my heart that Torchwood 4 is missing because Ace stole it as part of some scheme of the Doctor's. And Jack let her because seriously do you want to try to stop her? He's immortal, not an idiot. Most of the time.)

So we got a TON of snow this past week, starting Wednesday night and continuing off and on until last night (we're supposed to get even more Tuesday night. I don't know what Persephone and Hades have been up to this winter but it must be ALL KINDS OF FREAKY because her mom does i>not approve</i>.) I usually visit my parents on Wednesdays and was stuck there until finally making a break for it yesterday morning.

(When I left my car was stuck and had to be pushed out of its spot. At first it was just my father pushing but then a guy I had never seen before with magnificent red beard saw we were having trouble and strode over to help. And I didn't even get his name, before I AM A FOOL!)

But now I'm home and Ollie and Sebastian are about to start making out in the campaign office and all is right with the world.:)

January Talking Meme, Day 20: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, aerilex!

Aerilex's birthday was actually the 5th but I don't check the LJ homepage often enough and I missed it because I am terrible. She's been my beta for over two years now and I would get nothing done without her - for spn_reversebang I threw two big bang length fics at her on very short notice and she was all, "Sure, no prob." I don't know how people who don't have steady betas do it. I don't know how I ever did it.

But while she's a fab beta she is a fabulous writer. RL has kept her busy but when I was getting into SPN and Dean/Cas Aerilex was one of the writers I loved. (And still do!) She paints gorgeous pictures in beautiful snapshots and chapter 2 of The Stillness is writing I try to match every time I make something terrible happen to Cas.:)

So everyone please wish aerilex happy (late) birthday wishes! And if you've ever liked anything I've written go check out her masterlist and leave a comment saying how amazing she is.

<3 you, bb!

Lol, the last episode of Arrow has me shipping Oliver/Sebastian Blood. I don't even know./o\ minor Arrow spoilersCollapse )

So yeah, I ship them a bit.:) (And of course no one prompted them for the Porn Battle. On the other hand, if I do write an Oliver/Sebastian fic it will be the first one on AO3! That's never happened before!)

January Talking Meme, Day 19: I dunno. No topic today and it's supposed to snow again.

Oh, they finally finished work on my bedroom! There's a ceiling and the walls are painted and the floors are refinished. Did I mention there's a ceiling! Very soon I'll have a bed again.

Does that count? I talked so it counts. We'll have more interesting fannish goings on tomorrow, promise.

Fic Title: Welcome Echoes
Author: misachan
Fandom: Supenatual
Pairing(s): Dean/Castiel
Rating: Explicit
Word Count: 5600
Spoilers: Set Set in some vague, post-canon time where Cas is human for good and everyone is happy (but still hunting!)
A/N: Written for deancas_xmas for paxdracona. Prompt: former angel Cas gets hit with a rather cruel curse; he grows an impressive set of wings which have absolutely nothing to do with him becoming an angel again: he's still fully human. He is parts happy (in a nostalgic way) for their weight and such, but mostly he is bitter because the wings are beautiful but useless (can't fly and such) and cumbersome (they can't be hidden). Meanwhile, Dean discovers a kink he didn't know he had while trying to make his boyfriend feel better.

Summary: Dean supposed it was only a matter of time before Cas wound up on the wrong end of a witch's hex.

Every time they decided to go on a witch hunt the plan always managed to turn to the weirdest possible shit.Collapse )
